Nine PhD scholarships within agriculture, innovation and development - 12.11.2010

Agricultural Transformation by Innovation (AgTraIn) is a three-year world-class Joint Doctoral Programme offered by a consortium of six European partner institutions, which all have significant experience in research-based agricultural development.

Market in Uganda

Development of the agricultural sector is one of the most effective ways to achieve equitable and pro-poor economic growth and increase food security. Improved understanding of production systems, value addition of products and commercialisation are all necessary to unlock the development potential. The AgTrain Joint European doctorate is built between 6 leading European Universities of the Agris mundus consortium and their 10 associated partner institutions, in the field of agricultural development, commercialisation and farmer innovation in developing countries. The doctorate builds upon existing doctorate programmes by drawing together best practices from the different universities. Members of the Consortium bring complementary academic specialisations and regional and international networks relevant for this collaboration.

All AgTraIn doctoral candidates will study with two of the partner institutions and will be awarded a joint degree. They will, furthermore, have access to research periods with and co-supervision from ten associated partners, which all are local or regional centres of excellence within research and tertiary level education.

Twenty three PhD projects are now open for application. AgTraIn will fund nine candidates starting in 2011. The application deadline is 22 November 2010.

More information, including how to apply, is available on the AgTraIn homepage http://www.agtrain.eu/
