Language Courses and Requirements
Language courses
You can improve your language skills as part of your studies abroad in several ways:
Free language courses offered by the University of Copenhagen
The Centre for Internationalisation and Parallel Language Use at the University of Copenhagen offers free language courses (description in Danish only) for students who have been accepted for a period of studies abroad in an English, French, Spanish, German or Italian-speaking country. The three-week courses take place in August.
Evening classes
Many evening schools (for example, Studieskolen) offer language courses you can take before your departure. In many cases, you can apply for a language preparation grant to cover the course fee. Contact the Secretariat for Internationalisation for guidance.
EILC courses for Erasmus students
Students going on Erasmus exchange to a country with a less widely spoken language can apply for a one month EILC in the host country. The application process is administered by the central International Office at the University of Copenhagen. Read more about EILC courses on the International Office's homepage.
Intensive language courses at the host university
Many European universities offer intensive language courses prior to the start of the semester. For further information, check the universities’ websites. Language centres and schools also offer language courses. In many cases, you can apply for a language preparation grant to cover the course fee. Contact the Secretariat for Internationalisation for guidance.
Language requirements
Some overseas universities require that you do a language test to document a sufficiently high level of proficiency in the relevant language. Erasmus exchange students are not ususally required to do language tests but there can be exceptions. Contact the at the Secretariat for Internationalisation for guidance.
TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language – is recognised by most universities in English-speaking countries.
The Institutional TOEFL test is held at Copenhagen Business School. See more information regarding the test including registration, dates, fees and sample questions.
