Educational initiatives

At LIFE, climate aspects are to be considered as integral parts of natural sciences. Hence, climate changes and the subsequent impact on water resources, environment, soil resources, ecosystems, biodiversity and land use are integrated in relevant courses at the Faculty. Likewise, climate policy instruments and assessment tools are integrated in environmental and natural resource economics courses offered by the Faculty. A future opportunity may be explored on adding a human health dimension to existing and new educational initiatives at LIFE realizing that human health is determined by important factors of an environmental and social nature – in particular within key LIFE disciplines such as agriculture, natural resources management, veterinary public health and urban development.

Specific initiatives include the following:

  1. Highly specialised courses in climate aspects have been initiated, including the e-learning course “Climate Change Impacts, Adaptation and Mitigation”.
  2. A specialisation in climate change has been launched for the inter-university MSc programme EnvEuro (Environmental Science – Soil, Water and Biodiversity), and an additional interdisciplinary MSc programme on management in relation to climate change is being developed.
  3. Climate issues in the aquatic environmental context are also addressed in LIFE courses on Aquaculture, Fish Diseases, Aquatic Pathobiology and the MSc programme on aquaculture under the NOVA university network.
  4. In addition LIFE has a long tradition of education in Agricultural Development and is a host to the Agris Mundus programme of the EC.

LIFE is currently cooperating with three other faculties of the University of Copenhagen to establish a cross-faculty MSc programme in Climate Change. The main responsibility for the development and accreditation of this programme rests with the Faculty of Natural

Sciences.

Key courses are:
